AI helps Helicobacter pylori detection, smartphone assisted system improves diagnostic efficiency
Recently, a study published in PMC showed that researchers have developed a smartphone assisted Helicobacter pylori detection system based on deep learning. The system uses Faster R-CNN and ResNet 50 algorithms to analyze 270 gastric biopsy specimens, with a detection accuracy of 89.23%. By connecting microscopes, smartphones, and AI algorithms through 5G networks, real-time detection prompts can be pushed to doctors, effectively reducing missed diagnoses caused by pathologists' fatigue (the traditional manual detection missed diagnosis rate is about 14%). This system can be used in conjunction with traditional microscopes without adding additional operational steps, and is expected to become an efficient auxiliary tool for Helicobacter pylori screening, improving diagnostic consistency and accuracy.

The test shows positive for Helicobacter pylori antibodies? Expert interpretation of the response methods
In response to the confusion that many people have recently discovered positive results for Helicobacter pylori antibodies during physical examinations, experts have provided an authoritative interpretation. The experts stated that a positive antibody result merely indicates a past or current infection and cannot directly confirm the current infection. Further confirmation through carbon-13 and carbon-14 breath tests or fecal antigen tests is necessary. Among them, carbon-13 and carbon-14 breath tests are non-invasive and have high accuracy, and are the preferred choice in clinical practice; fecal antigen tests are suitable for children and those who cannot cooperate with the breath test. Once a current infection is confirmed, there is no need to be overly anxious. The clinical first choice is the quadruple therapy, and patients should complete the entire course of treatment as prescribed. The vast majority of patients can successfully eradicate the infection. At the same time, experts remind that the practice of separate dining, frequent handwashing, and not drinking raw water can effectively prevent Helicobacter pylori infection.

International research breakthrough: 235 metabolites can predict the risk of diabetes
In February, the top international journal Nature Medicine published a large-scale metabonomics study on diabetes, led by Harvard University and other international teams, integrating data from 23634 people in 10 countries, and tracking for 26 years. The study found that among 469 metabolites, 235 were significantly associated with the risk of diabetes, of which 67 were first discovered, involving multiple metabolic pathways such as bile acid and lipid. The study also developed risk characteristics composed of 44 metabolites, which can more accurately predict future diabetes risk than traditional risk factors, capture metabolic abnormalities that cannot be reflected by traditional indicators, and provide a new tool for personalized prevention of diabetes. The study also emphasizes that lifestyle has a significant impact on related metabolites, and reasonable exercise and healthy diet can effectively optimize the metabolite profile.
